On April 4, 2017, HORA NOVA, a weekly publication from the Alt Empordà region, published a news article on the start of construction at the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory, which it called the “most important in Girona area.” The article, which includes quotes from the director of the facility, Pere Guerra, and the mayor of the municipality, Joan Fàbregas, notes that the official inauguration will take place on July 1.
In addition, it refers to the recognition Albanyà is to receive in June as the first International Dark Sky Park in Spain, part of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA). The article also highlights that the municipality has “one of the starriest, light pollution free skies in Catalonia, according to data from NOAA’s Earth Observation Group.”
