Under the title ‘The largest observatory in Girona is taking shape’, the weekly magazine HORA NOVA explains in its May 23 edition that the construction of the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory is moving forward at a good pace, and that everything is ready for the official inauguration on Saturday, July 1.
The story notes that this event could coincide with the recognition of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA), which could declare the area the first International Dark Sky Park in the country. “Albanyà has one of the starriest, light pollution free skies in Catalonia, and this can be used to promote astro-tourism in a privileged environment” states the article, which also reminded its readers that Bassegoda Park campsite received the Starlight distinction in 2015 from the MaB programme, supported by UNESCO.
