Albanyà’s observatory is starting to take shape

Alt Empordà weekly magazine dedicated the cover of its May 23 edition to the state of the construction works at the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory, highlighting that it will have “the largest telescope in the whole of Girona”, and that it will be a centre “for the observation of the Cosmos for people of all ages, in a privileged natural setting with a sky of exceptional quality.”

The text mentions the Starlight certification received by Bassegoda Park campsite in 2015, and explains that Albanyà hopes to obtain the recognition of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) as the first International Dark Sky Park in Catalonia and Spain.

In the article, the director of the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory, Pere Guerra, notes that the facility will be “a first-class astronomical centre that will allow us to teach the public about science and make the tourist season last all year-round.”
