Albanyà inaugurates the observatory with the largest telescope in Girona

On Saturday, July 1, the websites of the 324 news channel, the DIARI DE GIRONA newspaper and the VILAWEB newspaper made reference to the news story published by the Catalan News Agency (ACN in its Catalan initials) on the inauguration of the astronomical observatory in Albanyà with the largest telescope in Girona. This event coincided with the IDA seal being granted to the municipality, making it the first International Dark Sky Park in Spain.

In the story, the Chairman of the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory, astrophotographer Juan Carlos Casado, stated that Albanyà “is like an island of darkness, and that means it has all the characteristics needed to observe the sky from the countryside.” The article also states that the Observatory, located in Bassegoda Park campsite, has state-of-the-art facilities and is designed to disseminate scientific research and education.
